World War I: Historic videos

The European Film Gateway has mounted a special site in honor of the 100th anniversary of start of the First World War.

Called the EFG1914 project, it brings together over 2900 films digitized for web viewing from Europe's film archives. Although only 20% of the output survives, European filmmaking exploded during War years. Documentaries, newsreels, fiction, and propaganda films of the time make up the EFG1914 collection. Anti-war films made after the Armistice are also included.

An accompanying virtual exhibit provides background with sections devoted to the Front, science and technology, the wounded, neutral countries, and more.
