Avoiding Plagiarism

Most people don't want to plagiarize. When they do plagiarize, it's often due to carelessness, not malice.

If you want to avoid plagiarism, give yourself enough time to do your work correctly--if you rush, you're most liable to make mistakes.

Give yourself enough time to do your research--take notes throughout your the process so when the time comes for you to quote or paraphrase something, you have all the information you need to make a proper reference.

Learn your discipline's citation style. Whether you use MLA or APA or one of many other citation styles, citing properly is one of the best ways to avoid plagiarism.
