New book: House of Stone

The late Anthony Shadid's book, House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a Lost Middle East (call # 306 S53) is a new addition to our collection. It is part of the collection we received through the Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys grant.

American-born and of Lebanese descent, Shadid was a foreign correspondent covering Beirut and Baghdad for the New York Times. The book is an account of his restoration of his ancestral home in Marjayoun, Lebanon. Videos recording his progress are available on YouTube.

The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys is a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities, conducted in cooperation with the American Library Association. Support was provided by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Additional support for the arts and media components was provided by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.
