Plough Library was one of the winners of the NEH/ALA grant of the Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys Bookshelf, which gave us a collection of books and videos on Islamic history and culture. The books are ready for check-out, and you can find many of them on our special display shelf on the Main floor of the library.
Titles are gathered in five categories: "American Stories"--books by or about American Muslims; "Connected Histories"--on the world shared by Islam and the West; "Literary Reflections,"--literary works about Muslim faith, ethics and identity; "Pathways of Faith,"--spiritual works; and "Points of View"--contemporary memoirs. A complete list of the books, plus other resources in the collection, is available here.
The Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys is a project
of the National Endowment for the Humanities, conducted in cooperation
with the American Library Association. Support was provided by a grant
from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Additional support for the arts
and media components was provided by the Doris Duke Foundation for
Islamic Art.
