Veterans History Project

The Veterans History Project, collects and preserves oral histories of American war veterans. Part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, the project intends to make these accounts available so that future generations can understand war and its realities.

In addition to veterans, accounts from civilians who supported war efforts are included. Wars covered are:
  • World War I (1914-1920)
  • World War II (1939-1946)
  • Korean War (1950-1955)
  • Vietnam War (1961-1975)
  • Persian Gulf War (1990-1995)
  • Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present)
The existing collection is searchable, and additional material is being solicited. Information about how to  participate is available.
